Evangel University Akaeze, Ebonyi State is one of the five (5) Private Universities licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria on 28th February 2012 to operate as degree awarding institutions. The Proprietor of Evangel University is the Assemblies of God, Nigeria. The mission of the University is “to offer total education for the liberation of the total man for total service to God, humanity, the individual and the society at large, through scientific inquiry, academic integrity, tolerance to diverse views and opinions, coupled with faith in the Bible as God’s Word”.

Evangel University commenced its academic activities for the 2012/2013 session on November 17, 2012. Presently, we have four Colleges, namely: College of Science, Management Sciences, Social Sciences and College of Art at its take-off Campus Okpoto, located at Kilometer 48 along Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway, Ebonyi State.

  1. LOCATION – The University is located in a serene environment conducive for academic work. Its isolation is to the advantage of the students who will not be distracted in their studies.

  2. CLASSROOMS – The University has large tiled classrooms, comfortable chairs, desks, magnetic boards and multimedia facilities for power point presentation of lectures.

  3. LIBRARY – The library is equipped with current and relevant books, journals and periodicals for study and research. It also has an e-library unit and is fully air-conditioned. The library recently took delivery of 183 boxes of modern textbooks and journals shipped down from the United States of America.

  4. ICT – The University has an Information and Communication Technology Centre that is well equipped and functional. This is to ensure that Evangel University students will be at par with their contemporaries in other universities all over the world.

  5. LABORATORIES – The University has modern science laboratories to balance the theoretical and practical aspects of learning. The laboratory scientists and technologists are available to assist the students whenever they are needed.

  6. ENTERPRENEURIAL SKILLS – The University ensures that in addition to meeting the minimum academic standards stipulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC), each student is required to learn skills in the production of various marketable products which can sustain the student on graduation.

  7. ACCOMMODATION – Students are comfortably accommodated with not more than four (4) persons in a tiled large room that is well ventilated with inbuilt convenience and steady water supply.
  1. RECREATION – There is ample provision for recreational activities to ensure that the students are physically and mentally fit; it has in place a standard football pitch, handball pitch, basketball pitch, volleyball pitch and lawn tennis court.

  2. OFFICE COMPLEX – Adequate and comfortable office spaces are in place for members of staff, both in the academic departments and in the administration.

  3. SECURITY – Since this is paramount for smooth academic work, the University has made adequate arrangement for the security of life and property and the entire university is secured.

  4. CAFETARIA – There is a cafeteria on campus to cater for both students and staff.

  5. HEALTH SERVICES – The University operates a modern Clinic which takes care of the health needs of students and staff.

  6. STUDENT/LECTURER RELATIONSHIP – Students enjoy personal (one-on-one) interaction with their lecturers because lecturers have been made to know that students are the most important persons in the University and the very reason for their employment. There is no sale of hand-outs. Sexual harassment is prohibited. The University has on its employ eight scholars at professorial level and six senior lecturers among many other lecturers. More senior academics are joining the University shortly.

  7. QUALITY OF STUDIES – At the end of a four (4) year programme undertaken by any student in Evangel University, such a person will be well equipped to take up any duty assigned to him or her in his or her area of specialty hence, products of the University will be well equipped to compete favourably with their counterparts from other universities in Nigeria and abroard. Also, the University ensures that the character of its products is moulded in such a way that they will be distinguished from others. Products of the University will be highly skilled, knowledge-driven, morally sound, employable; they are also trained to be employers of labour soon after graduation.

  8. FEES – When compared with most private universities in Nigeria, fees paid in Evangel University is among the lowest, hence it is affordable, yet this does not in any way reduce the standard or quality of education offered. A total fee of N250,000.00 (two hundred and fifty thousand naira) only, is charged per academic year, including accommodation fees. The fee can be paid in two instalments.

The Chairman of the Governing Council is His Excellency, Dr. Sam O. Egwu, CON, former Minister of Education, Federal Republic
of Nigeria and the former Governor of Ebonyi State.

The Vice-Chancellor – Prof. I. U. Kalu, Professor of Real Estate & Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies at Abia State University. A Professor with Distinctions and Awards.

The Registrar – Mr. John O. Nwagboso, Member, Nigerian Institute of Management.

The Bursar – Mr. Samuel J. Uwa, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria of 30 years standing.

The Librarian – Mr. Chris E. Tralagba, a Chartered Librarian of renown.
